Chicago Jazz Live is a one-hour series produced in partnership with WDCB, Chicago’s radio home for jazz. It was created and is hosted by Emmy Award winning composer, Steve Rashid. One of the true cradles of jazz, Chicago continues to boast an extraordinarily deep pool of talented jazz musicians. CJL shines a weekly spotlight on Chicago-area talent by presenting small groups recorded live, exclusively for this series, in front of an intimate audience at Studio5. Each episode includes interview segments with the featured artists. Conceived as a “house concert in a club”, CJL allows audience members an up-close look into the process and the intimate musical conversation that is the heart of a small ensemble.
This week on CHICAGO JAZZ LIVE we welcome vibraphonist and composer Thaddeus Tukes with his quintet, Dolphin Dance. Joining Thaddeus are Ryan Nyther on the trumpet, Brooke Wyatt on piano, Micah Collier on bass, and Jeremy Warren on the drums. Thaddeus Tukes showed tremendous musical talent as a student at Chicago’s Whitney Young High School and then at Northwestern University, where he pioneered the first degree in jazz vibraphone studies. Now, several years on, he is a rising star on the Chicago jazz scene and beyond. It was exciting to host Thaddeus and his group of inspired young musicians to our stage.
